Opaque Envelope Basis of Designs
Developed to meet IBC 2021, IECC 2021, NFPA 285, and MA Stretch Energy Code (where indicated) requirements for Climate Zone 5
The following opaque envelope wall Basis of Design (BOD) packages have been developed to assist owners, architects and contractors in the selection, specification and detailing of exterior wall assemblies that are code compliant, and based on building science fundamentals. Assemblies in the wall BODs strive for the concept of the Perfect Wall and are recommended to meet the requirements of the IBC 2021, IECC 2021 (Climate Zones 5), NFPA 285 acceptance criteria, MA Stretch Energy Code when applicable, and LEED v4 Fundamental Commissioning requirements for exterior wall assemblies. Dew point analysis are based on ASHRAE 99% winter outdoor design conditions for the greater Boston area and best practice indoor design conditions for typical uses. Appropriate use and application of the assemblies illustrated in these BODs will vary based on performance considerations and environmental conditions unique to each project and, therefore, do not represent the final opinion or recommendation of PACE Representatives or represented manufacturers.
